How We Take The "Sting" Out Of Tasting

what does this qdrt process do?

Bring Out The Good & Kick The Bad To The Curb

Distillation is like nature's "flavor party" for spirits, with a mix of elements giving each drink its unique personality. Some are the life of the party, while others, not so much. Our Quantum Distillation Refinement Technology steps in to kick out the party crashers – the ones responsible for the burn, harshness, and weird flavors.

Basically, more of what you love in your spirits and way less of the not-so-fun stuff.

Legends transforms smoothness with the QDRT® process. Starting with traditional distillations, whether it's vodka, gin, or bourbon, there are usually congeners – the culprits for that bite, burn, and harshness we endure for flavor's sake. Enter QDRT, meticulously engineered to boot out congeners, no more compromise. Meanwhile, we delicately enhance other natural elements, cranking up the flavor. Bid farewell to burn and welcome enhanced enjoyment with Legends! Cheers to a smoother, tastier experience!

it's math - more subtraction than addition

Our cutting-edge technology, doesn't replace traditional distillation. It's a proprietary finishing process enhancing our high-craft spirits by eliminating impurities that cause that "sting" and bitterness – the barriers to true spirit enjoyment, whether it's the depth of whiskey, the clean taste of vodka, or the aromatics of gin.

Using our patented process to achieve ultimate smoothness, flavor, and drinkability, is our way of reaching for the heights inspired by generations of distillers before us.

just a new step in an age old process

The QDRT process was designed and developed to reduce the impurities in alcohol, which naturally occur during the distillation process, by at least 50%. What was discovered is that our patented technology reduced the TOTAL Fusel Oils (Ethyl Acetates, Methanol and Butanol) levels down to levels never before seen in the alcoholic beverage industry without compromising taste.
By the way, the term "fusel" comes from the German meaning "bad liquor".
The results in this chart are from provided by Brewing & Distilling Analytical Services, LLC, an independent lab based in Kentucky, and are undeniable proof that the technology works.

a brief timeline of innovation

A Long Time Ago...

In 1813, Jean‐Baptiste Cellier‐Blumenthal patented the first continuously operating distillation column. Although many of the details of Cellier-Blumenthal's column were improved upon in later years, the general concept was to provide the basis for future column still designs.

Then, in 1822, Sir Anthony Perrier (1770–1845) patented one of Europe's first continuous whiskey stills. The still included a labyrinth of partitions, which allowed the wash to flow gradually and continuously over the heat, with increased contact between the vapor and liquid phases of the distillate. This meant small portions of fermented "wash" received the greatest amount of heat, thereby increasing the amount of potable alcohol that was collected.

In 1831, Aeneas Coffey patented the first commercially successful, continuous flowing, two-column whiskey still. His revolutionary, "Coffey Still" is still used by traditionalists to this day at some of the oldest distilleries in the world. Although over time several variants stood on the shoulders of his invention, not much has changed from his basic concept in 200 years.

Nevertheless we, like so many, consider him to be the Godfather of modern commercial distilling.

(obviously, these are just the cliff notes)

Our Story Begins

the founder

In 2007, Australian Born-American Proud, Michael Gerard Founded SpiritsUSA, LLC and began his entrepreneurial dive into the spirits industry.

a new hope

After much trial and error, in 2017 SpiritsUSA, LLC was awarded the patent for "Quantum Purity".

(Post Script:  In 2023, our government decided "purity" could no longer be used to define spirits.)

So we changed it to:

the three amigos

2010 - Michael meets Kenny May, a 5th generation moonshiner, and Johnny Allen, a self-taught mechanical genius. The trio immediately set out to improve upon the art of distilling through development of a technology they called, "Quantum Purity".

whiplash

In March 2020 Legends Distillery opened for bisiness to start producing world class spirits!

...and IMMEDIATELY thereafter:

but that's a story for another time.
